Kyoto Railway Museum
The Railway Museum is great for younger audiences and is full of hands-on exhibits, but there is still plenty of interesting history, and an incredible collection of real, historic trains, which you can see inside and out. There’s an equally impressive 30 × 10 meter 1/80th scale diorama that is run six times throughout the day. There is also a steam locomotive ride several times throughout the day.
Relatively close to Kyoto Station, as well as the Kyoto Acquarium. For lunch, one of my favorite tonkatsu spots - Tonkatsu Ichiban - is a 10 minute walk east.
